Trust Agents – by Chris Brogan and Julien Smith. An incredibly important book that in many ways is the basis for WHY Social Media works. If someone doesn’t “get” Social Media…give them this book. Purchase at Amazonor IndieBound.
Engage – by Brian Solis. This is my favorite Social Media book by far. A readable and practical treatise on all things related to Social Media, and very meaty. An extensive look at the “hows” and “whys” of the field. This is the most underlined, marked up, and earmarked book in my collection. Purchase at Amazonor IndieBound.
Socialnomics – by Erik Qualman – An excellent read that looks at how the current digital and Social Media landscape is changing the way we do business, both from the consumer and business points of view. At the core of the equation is the need to take our time and build relationships. Purchase at Amazon or IndieBound.
Inbound Marketing – by Brian Halligan & Dharmesh Shah. The folks at Hubspot do a great job of educating the masses on issues related to social media and inbound marketing. This is a rather quick read, but full of practical advice, both for the social media practitioner, and those businesses trying to do a better job of online marketing on their own. The Social Media Bible – by Lon Safko & David Brake. This book has it all. It is packed with information about just about everything you can imagine related to social media. Easy to use, this is a book you’ll refer back to regularly. Purchase at Amazon or IndieBound.
The New Community Rules – by Tamar Weinberg. There’s that word: Community. It’s become my mantra, and Weinberg does a great job relating the concept of community to how we should be doing business in the digital age. Purchase at Amazon or IndieBound.
Six Pixels of Separation – by Mitch Joel. The subtitle of the book says it all: Everyone is Connected, Connect Your Business to Everyone. Social media and viral marketing work because of how people are connected online. Get this book and get connected. Purchase at Amazon or IndieBound.
The Digital Handshake – by Paul Chaney – If you are relying solely on traditional media as your marketing tools of choice, you are missing out, and Chaney explains why.A handy blueprint of how business is being done, whether you’re on board or not. Purchase at Amazon or IndieBound.
Word of Mouth Marketing – by Andy Sernovitz. Word of Mouth marketing is simply the most powerful type of marketing there is, and when all is said and done, Social Media, when done well, is really nothing more than WOM. And instead of one-to-one it’s one-to-many. Sernovitz does a great job of teaching us how to think of digital engagement as Word of Mouth so that we can harness the power of relationships.
