That might not mean much to you, but that’s the Twitter equivalent of “Give and Receive”, and I wrote about this interesting concept not that long ago, because I love the idea of businesses and nonprofits using social media as a way of promoting great causes.

Twive & Receive is a 24-hour online fundraising contest, pitting non-profits in about 250 cities against each other. All of them will be raising money online today, with the top three fundraisers sharing a portion of $30,ooo in prize money. The idea is the brainchild of the folks at Razoo, which I believe to be the best of the online fundraising platforms. And really, everyone wins.

Here in Lancaster we are raising money for Water Street Ministries which serves our community on a daily basis by helping to change lives, and improving the Lancaster area for all of us. June marks the end of their fiscal year, and they are still about $500,000 behind budget. Helping Water Street raise funds during this campaign can help them to continue changing lives and have a positive impact on our community.

We would love to see Water Street Ministries win this competition, so we’re asking your help.

By donating now online, you give Water Street the chance to raise some money, but to win this competition. There might be about 250 others competing, some from much larger cities, but I do believe we can win this for them.

And if you’re not from Lancaster, I encourage you to find out whether someone is representing Twive & Receive in your area. While I would love for you to help Water Street win, I just really want everyone to give, whether it’s to Water Street or to a non-profit in your own community.

Oh, and if you are from the Lancaster area, you do have one more way of giving. The folks at the Chick-Fil-A in Lancaster have graciously stepped up and offered to donate 10% of all sales today (June 14th) from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. to the cause. So head on out, grab a meal, and help Water Street. Also, make sure you stop by the giving station and say, “Hi!” to me. We’ll have some other fun things going on as well.
