Times have definitely changed.
In some ways, the more things change, the more things stay the same.
But, there are some sales and marketing tactics that have definitely changed. I came across this 1950s era commercial for Dorothy Gray cosmetics and cold cream on YouTube.
If you’re selling a cold cream that women will use to remove dirt and makeup from their faces, you have to find a unique way of proving that it really works. These folks came up with a rather unique way, thanks to an “independent testing laboratory.”

And I’d love to get my hands on that booklet that they are offering at the end of the commercial. Couldn’t find it on ebay, but there must be some out there somewhere!
