Friday Game: What’s on Your Bucket List?

A plastic yellow bucket.

Once again borrowing the “Fun Friday” idea from my friend Joey Strawn (he does some pretty cool Fun Friday blog posts that you oughta check out), I’ve decided to lighten things up a bit for today. We’re gonna play a game here on the Inkling Media blog. Join me by letting me know what items are on your Bucket List. What are the things you absolutely want to do before you die?

Here are a few of the things on my list:

1. See the movie The Bucket List – nope. still haven’t seen it, but I want to. I guess it’s a really sad movie, so my wife doesn’t want to see it. And I don’t like watching movies by myself. Anyone have it on DVD that I can borrow?

2. Write a book – This will happen. Have already begun the process. Still trying to decide whether or not to make it a “scratch ‘n’ sniff” book or not, though…

3. Get out of the country – 49 years old and my only two ventures out of the country include a trip to Montreal and another to Toronto. I actually loved Toronto. Great city. But somehow Canada just doesn’t seem to qualify for “international travel”. Especially since both are just over the border. I’m thinking Europe. Or Australia.

4. See U2 live in concert - They’ve pretty much been my favorite band since I first played them on the air at my college radio station back in 1980. And yet, I’ve never seen them live. I met them once, but that was for a radio interview, not a concert. Some day…

5. See a game in every major league baseball park – Baseball is my favorite sport and I love seeing different ball parks. I’ve got a long way to go. Like…most of them. Um, I think I’ve only seen games in two of the current parks. Sure hope I live well into my 90s!

6. Go to Cooperstown – Of all the sites in the U.S., one of the ones I want to see the most is the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. A friend of mine recently went and sent me pictures, and boy was I wishing I was there! This is probably one of the most attainable items on my list.

7. Invent a new word – I’m currently trying to get everyone to start using the word “Muelleriffic” to describe things that are really, really, really amazing. Go ahead. Say it. Out loud. Your assignment is to use it in conversation at least once a day for the next month. C’mon. Help me out!

8. Have a meal or drink named after me – I wouldn’t mind having a nice coffee blend named in my honor (are you taking notes Square One Coffee??) Also wouldn’t mind being immortalized in some kind of sandwich. Any suggestions? I already have a comic character patterned after me (though he needs his own spinoff!)

9. Get my own TV show – My family is pretty darn funny, but I don’t think theyd agree to be on camera. They often follow their funny statements with “Don’t tweet that!”, so I’m pretty sure they won’t approve of a family reality show. Perhaps a series from the porch, complete with visits from my wacky neighbors and even wackier friends. Can’t be any worse than 95% of the garbage that people watch these days. I would also love a Food Network or Travel Channel show where I get paid to travel and eat. I could do that! Or, I’d even be happy to get paid to sit on my porch and eat all sorts of food. Hmmm. I need an agent.

That’s pretty much all I can think of. I’m a pretty simple guy.

Oh, and if you’re looking for the small business or social media application to this, it’s pretty simple. This is an exercise in community building, relationship building, and getting to know more about others. You now know more about me, so it’s your turn!

So what’s on your bucket list? Comment below and let us know about the things you’ve always wanted to do!

I am always way late to the party. I know I have a whole list lost somewhere in the nether regions of my cluttered brain but I can only remember one thing. ** Travel to Alaska for the annual Midnight Sun Baseball Classic in Fairbanks. It's held every June 21st to celebrate the summer solstice. First pitch is at 10:30pm and the sun "sets" and "rises" during the game. I've been on some cool sports trips but this one would take the cake!

Shonali 1230 pts

BarbYouchah We were in Alaska last year and JUST missed that - but we still got to see a night game in Fairbanks... and watching it in practically broad daylight was really fun. I hope you get to go there soon, it's really the trip of a lifetime.

BarbYouchah 14 pts

Shonali That's so excellent! When I get on to planning the trip I may hit you up for some advice, if that's ok course :)

Shoot a man in Reno, just to watch him die

KenMueller 1741 pts

odonnellsteve Sorry, Steve, but that one's already been done.

As I have been informed by Prof. Mueller that my assignment is overdue and I have NOT been granted an extension due to rapture, I will now commence to list a few of my bucket list items. These are in no way all of my items (as some are too personal) nor are they in any particular order (just however they pop into my head):

~TRAVEL: Take a coffee tour of Europe; Visit friends in Australia; Take an extended writing retreat in Ashland, Oregon; Vacation in Ireland

~Write a best-selling novel and become a famous author, making enough money to do nothing but continue to write

~Survive my children's growing up years. ;) And more than survive, see them grow into the amazing people they've been created to be.

There, Prof. Mueller. Is that enough? ;)

KenMueller 1741 pts

jacksvalentine a coffee tour is perfect sounding! Good job.

On YOUR bucket list:

1. Like ginidietrich said, it's not that great. But hey, if that's what you want to do...

2. Why don't you write a song instead?!

3. How about India?

4. Done it, ha ha! The show that we saw, No Doubt opened for them, and they were fab.

5. Meh. Now, if you said cricket... and I know bdorman264 will relate to that.

6. We thought we'd do that this coming week but it was too much effort. I think it's still on my husband's bucket list, though.

7. Done it. Barfshiner, anyone?

8. That would be pretty cool.

9. Me too. I would like my own cooking show, Gini get OUT of my head!

What would be on mine... let's see...

1. Travel much MUCH more internationally. New Zealand, Australia, France... I have to figure out how to get speaking gigs there so that I get paid to go.

2. Get Waxing UnLyrical an "I kick ass" Alltop badge and onto the AdAge Power 150 (once it's on there, then I'll worry about moving it up).

3. Lose 20 pounds. I almost wrote 30, but that might be unrealistic.

4. Act again. In a musical. Which means singing, dancing AND acting (what, you didn't know I used to be an actress?)

5. Have a beautiful backyard (it's ok right now, but needs some work) with a moon garden.

7. Re-do my kitchen with an Aga.

8. Write a book, but something like Harry Potter that makes me a gazillion bucks and is fun to read.

9. See Elvis in concert. Though I may have come as close to that as I can when we saw "Elvis in Concert" in London last year.

10. Move back to California.

KenMueller 1741 pts

Shonali ginidietrich bdorman264 I'd love to visit India. and Australia, and...well...anywhere. Germany!

And I could stand to lose about 20 pounds as well.

I wouldn't worry too much about AdAge. I got on there only to find that there is one metric they are using that is no longer in existence, so I can't climb too much higher! I notified them, but they don't seem to care...

MarkJMuellerJr 11 pts

I want to go to Australia and scuba dive in the Great Barrier Reef and own season tickets to a Philadelphia pro sports franchise.

OK - this is fun for a Friday! Sorry it's so late. Here are some things that I'd like to do:

--get a literary agent

-- get a book published

-- teach more classes in communications or creative writing

-- go to Alaska

-- Go to Oktoberfest in Munich

-- be on a game show - preferably Wheel of Fortune

-- have a building or wing named after me at my alma mater, which of course will take a large donation on my part, so I guess becoming a little (at least temporarily) wealthy is on the list too.

-- Create spawn

-- create a successful online literary magazine (I started one - just need to see it become a success!)

-- see every national park in the United States

-- meet Tom Petty

-- buy an old house with character, which means I must become more financially responsible, as in stop living for today

These aren't as exciting as real bucket list goals, but I also want to rekindle relationships with kinds-of-estranged family members and become closer to my teenage brother sister. I also need to start blogging regularly again and read a book a week again.

KenMueller 1741 pts

donnatalarico interesting list, but I'm pretty sure you'd have to live another 100 years to accomplish all that! Oh, and I've met Tom Petty. You aren't missing much. And he's a tiny little guy!

Talk about putting my thinking cap on Ken :).

I love life more than life itself and I want to live it the best way I know how.

So here goes - although I'm sure there's tons more lol

Some are realistic - some not - but what the hell - it's my bucket list!

- skydive

- fall in love again and maybe again after that ;)

- write a book that gets published - not one that sits on my desktop

- sign a check for 10 million dollars - because if I can write one for that much it means I have a lot more ;)

- play one more game of baseball with my old college teammates

- teach my kids to play sports (if/when I have them)

- have my college's baseball field named after me

- host a talk show

- act in a sitcom

- fly a plane - or at least take some lessons

- meet Gini in person :)

- walk on another planet

- see my blog - nittyGriddy - on the Top Ten list of something big!

- save a person

- find a cure for Cancer - okay so this one might be far fetched but I want I want to be alive when they finally find one

- find a magic potion for staying young ;)

- scuba dive - I never could (sensitive ears)

- road trip across the US (preferably not alone lol)

- win a Nobel prize for bringing peace to the middle east

- punch 2 specific people - never lifted a hand in my life - not my style and not very lady like - but there's 2 who'd I'd love to lower myself for just for one second!

- Okay, that's it for now...but there's 100 more!

Loved this exercise Ken. Thanks for the opportunity to share and learn some new things about people here.

Cheers

KenMueller 1741 pts

Griddy Wow. Great list Griddy. But what's up with everyone wanting to skydive?? Am I the only wuss here?

Griddy 359 pts

KenMueller I'm too chicken as well haha. But there are a couple times where I was pretty close - but.....

Lisa Gerber 895 pts

Griddy you are amazing. this is an awesome list. I'm going to add one item to my bucket list based on yours: Find out who the two people are the Griddy wants to punch out, and get the story. in person.

KenMueller 1741 pts

Lisa Gerber Griddy I smell a pay per view special....

Griddy 359 pts

KenMueller Lisa Gerber Oh, I would totally invite you guys to watch the day I get that chance - and FOR FREE! haha

Griddy 359 pts

Lisa Gerber LOL! Now, now Lisa...it would be very un-lady like for Mel to spill the beans ;).

Truth: I used to carry around my bucket list. A list of 50 or so things I felt were necessary to accomplish. It started out as things to do before I turned 30, then turned into some life-long goals. I don't carry it anymore but here are some of the things it contained:

- Jump out of a perfectly good airplane. My dad did this to celebrate his 50th birthday and, like him, I'm terrified of heights and want to face my fear.

- Climb Mochu Picchu. Mostly because it would be a great story to tell my kids.

- Be able to express my gratitude for everything my parents have done for me, my husband and our daughter. I don't know if this will ever happen, but I keep it on my list as a constant reminder.

- Read a book every week for at least one year. I have enough books - now I just need the motivation!

- Rent an RV and tour all the national parks with Kris and Harper. Or just drive across the country and hug a redwood.

KenMueller 1741 pts

shanellelee Nice list. I like the one about your parents, and feel the same way about my parents! And I'm with you on the book one, too. So many books, so little time!

And thanks for taking time off from your vacation to play along!

shanellelee 8 pts

KenMueller Anything for you, Mr. Mueller :)

KenMueller 1741 pts

shanellelee Hmmm. I'm thinking....cake...

MaryAnnFrancisCowley 5 pts

1.) Visit Abbey Road Studios

2.) Drive across the country

3.) Visit Eric Carr's grave

4.) Be a grandmother (I truly have no control over this one, but it would be nice).

5.) See Heart live (it's on the agenda this summer)

6.) See Pat Benatar live (I know she's coming to Lanc, it's about budget)

And Ken, I've invented a word when I was still in high school: "stansubtial" meaning anything that resembles the hotness of Paul Stanley circa 1983.

KenMueller 1741 pts

MaryAnnFrancisCowley Sounds like a good, and musical, list, MaryAnn! I'm surprised that only one item involved KISS, though!

teamccloud 9 pts

KenMueller I think the new word is McRific, as in, "Did you hear about that McCloud? He's super McRrific!"

Now, my bucket list:

• Go to the Olympics. I love the Olympics, and I would really like to experience them live and in person.

• Attend a Super Bowl game. I don't care who plays -- I just want to be in the spectacle once.

• Attend a World Series game (I actually had game 4 tickets for the Pirates in '90 or '91, and we know how that turned out.).

• Like Ken, I want to write a book. I told myself when I was high school that I'd write a book by the time I was 30. I'm now officially older than the median Pennsylvanian's age. (http://www.forbes.com/feeds/ap/2011/05/19/business-us-census-aging-pennsylvania-pennsylvania_8474687.html)

• Travel internationally with my wife. I had the fortune of being an exchange student in Holland during my junior year in high school. Now I want to have the international travel experience with my wife.

KenMueller 1741 pts

teamccloud Don't try to steal my lexical thunder! So which olympics do you prefer: winter or summer? And you can be a part of a Super Bowl spectacle, as long as it doesn't involve a wardrobe malfunction!

teamccloud 9 pts

KenMueller I prefer summer Olympics. And no wardrobe malfunctions here. We're full functioning wardrobes.

KenMueller 1741 pts

teamccloud On behalf of the IOC and the rest of the free world...Thank you!

teamccloud 9 pts

KenMueller Your response is very McRrific. Nice work!

ScottTyson 6 pts

motorcycle trip across the US - (not alone:)

live in a Spanish speaking country for at least a year

look back on my life and say ("That was totally Muellerific!" - I'm assuming it will be a commonly used word by then)

KenMueller 1741 pts

ScottTyson I like your thinking, Scott! Some day I will be a common word in the lexicon!

MarkJMuellerJr 11 pts

1. Scuba dive in the Great Barrier Reef
2. Own season tickets to a Philadelphia pro sports franchise
3. Skydive
4. See the Northern Lights

KenMueller 1741 pts

MarkJMuellerJr Good stuff. And when you own those season tickets, you'll be taking me a lot...right?

BrendaBoitson 10 pts

1. About a year ago, I become obsessed with the National Parks. I've seen a dozen already, so my first bucket list items is to visit all 56 National Park UNITS before I die.

2. FINISH MY BOOK, my memoir, tentatively titled 'keepin' it kevin'.

3. Pay off my debt, buy an older, non-luxurious jallopy RV and travel around the U.S.

I have lot of other goals, but these are the bucket list items :)

KenMueller 1741 pts

BrendaBoitson all great choices! Thanks for stopping by and playing!

Responses To Yours:

1. I never saw it.

2. I wrote a book - a picture book, we should combine it with your scratch'n'sniff book.... #bestseller

6. Never went there either. I smell ROAD TRIP!!

7. I invented "Skeetle" I think anyway.... & the other 2 I previously told you about....

8. I named a drink after my friend.... maybe there will be karma one day.....

9. My life is pretty darn much like a soap opera "Skeetle's Roulette Wheel" would be a FANTASTIC TV Show.

My list?? Ummmm....never really thought about it.... let me think about it & get back to you....after the rapture....

KenMueller 1741 pts

skeetle ha. some great ones. Been to Jersey. No need to go back. But again...dissing Bono. tsk tsk tsk

ginidietrich 5280 pts

OK. Fine.

First, I have a few comments:

1. The movie isn't that great, but you can find it on TBS right now.

2. You shouldn't be allowed to travel. I know your sense of direction.

3. Baseball mentioned more than once? What a surprise.

4. You can check #7 off your list. I already use it and we all know everyone does what I do.

5. Is #9 a reality show?! Gasp!

6. You have a comic character?

7. I'll be your agent.

My list:

1. Write many books, the first as early as next year

2. Move to the mountains of Colorado

3. Go on a safari

4. Climb Everest

5. See Michael Jackson in concert (jerk died before I could make that happen)

6. Have a home in Rome

7. Sell Spin Sucks Pro for a gazillion dollars

8. Pay for portions of my nieces and nephews college educations

9. Get my own Food Network show (cooking; not eating or traveling)

10. Do the ride across Colorado

11. Get Spin Sucks in the top 10 in the AdAge Power 150

12. Sell Spin Sucks Pro for a gazillion dollars (did I mention that?)

13. Have enough money that I can tell the bank to F off

There are a lot more, but that's good for now. I have to go get the wine glasses out for wine:thirty now.

KenMueller 1741 pts

ginidietrich Oh look. You don't have time to make a list, and then suddenly you have time to both critique MY list, make YOUR OWN list, and then drop everything to drink wine. wow. I wonder what Lisa Gerber would say.

OK, so:

1. I still wanna see it

2. But I need to travel

3. Baseball rocks

4. We need to use it more

5. Should be

6. Yes. You can read about it here: http://inklingmedia.net/2010/08/15/sunday-comics-inkling-media-gets-found-in-the-funnies/ and you'll be reading more about it on Monday!

7. OK!

and now to your list:

5. He'll be back

8. Can you adopt me? or pay for a portion of MY kids college?

9. You cook, I eat!

12. Can you adopt me? (did I mention that already?)

Lisa Gerber 895 pts

ginidietrich oh, I didn't even list #7 and #12 - they are a given and what will fund my bucket list.

Griddy 359 pts

Lisa Gerber ginidietrich Can they fund teh 10 million dollar check I'd like to write as well? Pretty please? lol ;)

TheJackB 1488 pts

ginidietrich In reference to MJ, that bastard screwed up traffic in my neighborhood more times than I like to count.

What kind of books do you want to write?

what sort of food would you cook on your show?

sarabozich 7 pts

We have two in common! Write a book and "Having something (not a star) named for me." My list is very outdated, though I've kept it for nearly 10 years now. I need to take some time to update it. It also includes "drive cross-country in a Jeep" and "spent one summer not wearing shoes" (on a beach). Ha, not sure these will happen.

KenMueller 1741 pts

sarabozich Well, since we have a birthday in common, it's fitting that we have more in common!

And maybe you should just drive a Jeep cross-country while not wearing shoes....

Lisa Gerber 895 pts

I say yes on the scratch and sniff!!

My list includes:

Drink Marlborough wines in the land where they were made - Marlborough New Zealand

Retire in my home in the country in France

Go heli-skiing for one whole week.

See the Pet Shop Boys in Europe where they are still fully appreciated.

KenMueller 1741 pts

Lisa Gerber The Pet Shop Boys? Really? That's like seeing Jerry Lewis movies in France where he is still seen as a cinematic genius. Or seeing David Hasselhoff in Germany...
