There are two kinds of local businesses that are active on Social Media platforms: the Promoters and the Spammers.
They’re pretty easy to spot, and I’m sure you’ve run into them, particularly on Facebook.
The Spammer
This is the business that posts and reposts their latest deals and events over and over and over again. They even go as far as to use the new “Use Facebook as Page” feature, and the @ tagging feature, to toot their own horn on everyone else’s Business Page, even when there isn’t a logical connection between the two businesses. In other words, it’s all about them.
The Promoter
This is a business that is very active on Facebook, but more often than not they are promoting other businesses in the community. While they sometimes promote their own events, it’s in a rather non-salesy kind of way. But usually they are promoting the community, local events and organizations, and even other businesses. They’ll only cross-post with another business when they are promoting that business or when there’s a legitimate connection between the two. They understand that what’s good for the entire community is also good for them.
Which are you?
How do other people view you? Look at how you use Facebook for your business and then think about how you would feel if others treated you the way you treat them?
Are you a promoter or a spammer?

Perhaps you can use your Facebook business page to let others promote their businesses, or you can even promote them yourself by “liking” other businesses and tagging them in appropriate, non-spammy ways.
