What’s wrong with this picture?
I’ve driven by this billboard on numerous occasions and it always bothered me. But I never thought to blog about it until a friend mentioned that she was bothered by it as well.
The problem? This billboard is located in Lancaster…not Harrisburg. Someone at Geico thought they were making a “local” buy…and missed the mark…by about 40 miles.
And a lot of us have noticed and scratched our heads in wonder.
This is almost as annoying as when companies buy commercials on local broadcast outlets and mispronounce “Lancaster.” (Emphasis on the first syllable, not the second)
Know your market. Know your customers. Know your audience.
Do your research.
This is especially important for larger non-local companies trying to attract customers through “local” marketing.
If you don’t know your market, people will see through you and you’re wasting your money.
How well do you know your audience?
