I’ve had requests for more of the Weekend Music Game, but I also want to make sure we keep things somewhat focused on Social Media related topics.
So this edition of the Weekend Music Game is the Digital Download Edition.
If you’re new, the Weekend Music Game is participatory. The idea is to comment and share so we all learn about some cool, new music.
Your task is to tell us about your favorite free (and legal) music download. It can be a recent download, or something from years ago. But with your recommendation, point us to the download location (if it is still available).
I’ll start off with a few recommendations…two for bands, and one a site:
First, you need to check out Noisetrade.com. Started by Derek Webb a few years back, Noisetrade is a great resource for bands to get their music heard. The site offers free downloads of hundreds, if not thousands, of artists. Plus, if you like what you download, you get the chance to tell others about it via social media AND put something in the tip jar. Check it out.
Now my two recommended downloads for now are:
The French Revolution – Yes, we were involved early on in marketing this band (local to Lancaster) but since then a number of free download sites have discovered them and they’ve had more than 3,000 downloads since the album was released last October. Not bad for a band that has never played live (and probably never will). You can read a bit more about them here.
Pageant Music – “12 Gates” – This collection of indie/sacred songs is from a group of local musicians and friends including Hiram Ring, Matt Monticchio, Cliff & Jennifer Lewis (of Trash & Glory), Mike Bitts (Innocence Mission), Joy Ike, Brook Annibale, and more. Even if “sacred” or religious music isn’t your thing, you should still check this out. You may even hear influence of folks like Sufjan Stevens and Derek Webb in there. So download 12 Gates for free over at Noisetrade, and if you like it, let others know via Facebook or Twitter, and maybe even put a tip in the tip jar. And you can read more about the project here.
Those are my recommendations. Download them for free and let me know what you think. I’m pretty sure you’ll like what you hear.
And now it’s your turn! Leave a comment telling us about one or more of your favorite digital download finds…especially if it’s something you got free and legally. Social Media is word of mouth at it’s best. This is your chance to share some of your favorite music.
