An Open Letter to My Community re: #L4Haiti

Dear Community,

Thank you for making last night an amazing night. Nearly 500 people were on hand at the Lancaster County Convention Center and Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square for a Lancaster for Haiti benefit concert.

Thank you to all of you who showed up and offered your money, above and beyond the $10 ticket price.

Thank you to all of the bands who donated their time and talents.

Thank you to all of the businesses who donated money, merchandise, and services to help offset our expenses and make the evening a success.

Thank you to those who donated raffle items…and those who paid to win those items.

Thanks to those who watched the event live on Ustream, and donated online.

Thank you to an enormous corps of volunteers who worked long and hard hours for nothing more than the chance to help out.

Thank you to everyone who used the power of words and community, whether online or offline, to let others know about this amazing event.

In the end, we had great entertainment from Heads Up Lancaster, followed by the music of the Steven Courtney Band, Josh Albright Band, Movies With Heroes, Ben Roth Band, The Mint, Slimfit, The Swimmers, and The Slackwater News.

An awesome night with great music, and more importantly, great people.

Everything went smoothly and the love in the room was amazing. And the mood on Twitter and Facebook continues to be very upbeat.

Lancaster for Haiti was an exercise in selflessness. There were no egos in the room. I wish I could name everyone, but it would take too long. You can find out more about many of those involved here.

In the end, we’ll be able to hand over a nice chunk of change to the Mennonite Central Committee to help them in their relief efforts in Haiti. We don’t have the final tally yet, but I can tell you the preliminary numbers are quite good, and we’ll let you know the total as soon as we can.

Yep. I love my friends and my community.
