Debut of The Social Life of Frank & Linh

As I mentioned earlier in the week, today we unveil a new feature on our blog. Each Sunday we’ll have a new comic in this series. But since this is the inaugural edition, I’ll let creator Jeff Burkholder, the artist behind Zoidland, explain his concept for The Social Life of Frank & Lihn:

I really got my inspiration for “The Social Life of Frank and Linh” from the fact that my wife and I, despite sitting not 10 feet away from each other at our respective computers, will occasionally IM, rather than talk. (Most of the time, this is so that we can have a “private” conversation outside of the kids’ understanding!) And throughout the day, we IM, we text, we tweet, we Facebook-chat…all these different forms of social networking. I’ve also created friendships, partnerships, and working relationships with people I’ve barely met, face-to-face. Relationship happens over the internet, and I jumped at the chance to talk about that a bit, when Ken offered.

As for the characters themselves, Frank’s brand new in my milieu of characters, and is very excited and gung ho about what social media can do for his life–provided he can do it while sitting at an internet café. While he may go a bit overboard from time-to-time, his enthusiasm is totally borne up by people I run into on a daily basis. Linh is a second-string character from my other comic strip, Zoidland, who tends to the practical side of things. I liked her enough that I decided a promotion was in order, and she will largely fill the role of the “voice of reason” to counter Frank. So, sit back, scroll on down, and enjoy!
