867-5309

If you’re a child of the 80s you probably remember the song 867-5309/Jenny by Tommy Tutone.

And if you remember that song, you’re gonna hate me, because it will be stuck in your head all day.

Some songs are just like that. They get stuck in your head. In marketing this is what is known as top of mind awareness.

Not every potential client is ready to purchase your product and services right of way. But when they ARE in need of what you’re offering, if you are stuck in their head…there’s a good chance you’ll get their business.

Social Media is great for that. If you’re a part of their community, they will think of you. I know that’s how it works for me, and how it probably works for you.

Not to knock Tommy Tutone, but the band would have lingered in obscurity if it hadn’t been for this catchy song that people love to hate…or hate to love.

Oh, and in case you forgot…enjoy!

The number 212-867-5309 (New York City) was held for many years by a disk jockey; I recall reading that he sold it on ebaY for $200K.

How many people do you suppose dial PA6-5000 in order to call Pennsylvania 6-5000? The number PEnnsylvania 6-5000 has belonged to the Hotel Pennsylvania in NYC since the 1930s.

Great Laura! It's nice to know that you'll be remembering me. :)

All week I've had Sarah McLachlan's "I Will Remember You" in my head. I mean ALL WEEK.

Ok, this is the most enjoyable blog post I've read in ages. We put it out to our network for you. Viral Jenny! Muhaha.

Note: Anyone who does this for "It's a Small World" will be reported to Twitter for abuse. You have been warned.

What's even funnier Ken is that 867-5309 was a local number for us - a woman in Annville, PA - who grew to hate the song, but refused for years to change her number!

But, as far as songs that stick in your head? I'll trump your "Jenny" with the "It's A Small World" song at Disney World - once saw my father almost reduced to tears over that one..."PLEASE make it stop!"

:)

Great post Ken. I'll remember it for too long I'm afraid. That really makes your point though. I just hope that we can get stuck in our customers heads the way that you just did that to me. LMAO
