Foursquare, Geo-Location, and a New Blog Venture

By some accounts, Foursquare is the next big thing in Social Media. It is one of an entire category of Social Media platforms known as “geo-location” or “location based social networking.”

In a recent blog post I mentioned that as we move forward, everything will be local, mobile, social, and personal. With this in mind, it’s no surprise that location based networks and apps are going to move toward the forefront and become an essential part of the Social Media equation.

Last week, Social Media marketer and blogger Paul Chaney invited me to join him in a new venture. Paul is the author of The Digital Handshake, a book that I believe to be one of the essential texts on Social Media. Paul’s new idea is something that he and I are partnering on, and hope that more folks will come on board.

The end result of this is a new blog, Check Insider, that will cover all things related to the location based social media industry. Whether it be Foursquare, Gowalla, Yelp, Google Buzz, or any other geo-location tool, we hope that this blog will be the place where people go to keep up with this aspect of the industry.

That’s it! We’re not out to cover everything related to Social Media, just this small (and growing) piece of the Social Media pie. If you want more info, you can check out Paul’s blog post about this very same venture.

This new blog will debut next week and we hope you’ll visit, enjoy, and contribute. With that in mind, Paul and I aren’t doing this for fame, and certainly not for fortune. And we are looking for a few more seasoned bloggers who are interested in joining us, so let us know if you’re interested.
