More Shared Moments and Community: The Winter Olympics

by Ken on February 10, 2010 · 1 comment

The other day I blogged about the Super Bowl in my post Of Shared Moments and Community.

Social Media allows us to truly share those universal moments while existing in some form of isolation. On a nightly basis, I’ll see friends discussing particular programs on Twitter, as they happen. One night it might be Lost, while another it’s American Idol. Then there are those unifying sports moments or breaking news events.

In just two days the Winter Olympics begin in Vancouver…another chance for Social Media to shine…for communities…global communities…to form. Many of us will share these moments on Twitter and other Social Media platforms.

This Olympiad has both a Facebook page and a Twitter feed, and it will be interesting to see how they utilize those platforms in the heat of the competition.

This Olympiad further embraces the digital realm with CODE Canada, an interactive digital and live arts and music experience, complete with digital souvenirs. It’s a chance for Canada to share it’s culture with the world.

So…tune into the Olympics, and log on to Twitter. I’ll see you, and the world, there.
