My 3 Words for 2010

The New Year is a time for resolutions and goals. Looking back and looking forward. For the past few years, Chris Brogan has offered up his “3 Words” to set the course for his upcoming year, and he’s thrown down the challenge for all of us to offer our 3 words. So…here are mine:

Community – If you spend any amount of time with me, you’ll hear me utter this word. Everything I do, I try to make sure it is community centered. Oh, the community varies, as I am a part of many different communities…but my hope in 2010 is that “community” takes precedence over “me” more often. Social Media is build around the concept of community. I want to be a good citizen in all of the communities of which I’m a member. The concept of community was brought home for me once again while listening to Jason Mitchell speak at my church, LCBC, in his sermon, “A Party of One.” In addition to living more in community I’ll be blogging about this concept more as well.

Relationships – Related to the above, relationships are the cornerstone on which community is built. Where community is a group, relationships are built on a one-to-one basis. In 2010 I seek to build stronger relationships with my friends, as well as build new relationships. Relationships are built on trust. I “resolve” (there’s that word) to be more trustworthy in all of my relationships. I also want to be a connector; someone who helps other people connect with each other and build relationships.

Follow-Through – OK, I cheated a little since this is really two words together, but “follow through” is important. Whether swinging a bat or a golf club, the follow through is just as important as the beginning of the swing. In business you might call this “closing the deal.” I tend to be an idea person. My mind is constantly working and coming up with all sorts of grandiose schemes. It’s the follow through where I have problems. In some cases it’s because of a lack of financial resources, in other cases it’s because my A.D.D. takes over and I move on to the “next big idea.” I already have some big ideas for 2010, and my goal is to get past the idea stage and follow through.

What are your three words for 2010? What words will guide you through the upcoming months?

Hey, Stranger! Without thinking real hard, the three words that come to mind are the same three words that constantly barrage my daily life.
NOT.
ABOUT.
ME.
Totally an overused phrase, but if thought about intentionally, and some action put behind them...they are relative to my every waking moment.
I hate those words. I fight them. And I wish they would go away. BUT...they try desperately to keep me in line, which I am in desperate need of 24/7.
So, again this year...they are my friends.

Not sure what my three words are yet, but I love this idea. I read a similar blog post from Chris Guillebeau (http://chrisguillebeau.com/3x5/) who stated his beginning of the year goals and asked readers to hold him accountable. I may plan to do that too.

Thanks for commenting, Amy! All good words!

Love the concept of three words. In no particular order,

Passion - in all aspects of my life, certainly and always in my work, but I need to step up my passion in play. While building Party Belles I have neglected some of the fun in life (ironic I know), resorting to napping than enjoying my friends and family and the amazing world around us. Must get back to travelling to keep my life in perspective.

Dedication - I choose this as an alternative to "follow through" but ditto the sentiment!

Learn - I spend an incredible amount of time learning my craft, following trends, concepts etc., but again as in passion, I need to diversify my focus, breathe in the bigger picture.

fun excercise, thanks and happy new year!

Excellent, Tara, and thanks for commenting. I'm finding that as I read a whole host of "3 Words" blogs, I'm agreeing with all of them...they are all words that fit where I am and where I'm going...

Love "follow through!" I might steal that for my own...

Actually here are my three words:
Story. My goal is to blog the stories this year and not just the stuff - a lot harder but a lot more rewarding.
Focused. Last year was all about finding my way - blindly most of the time - this year will be all about focusing on specific goals, planning out each phase, and reaching success.
Balance. Because of the success I earned last year, I have a lot of work! Which I love, but I also need to find a way to maintain balance with my family.

Thanks for the prompt! That was a great exercise.
