Steve, good point. But those Auto-DMs are the exception. I’d still rather not get any.

And Chris, that is a great point. If you configure your LinkedIn account you can update it via Twitter by appending it with #ln. And you can do the same with Facebook by using #fb

Ken, great list of Twitter tips. I hope tip 4 gets around bc I would hate to see Twitter become another spam source.

Also don’t forget about the recent #ln trick to update your linkedin account.

I’ve seen one or two auto-DMs that didn’t make me immediately un-follow. Those acknowledged the fact that they were autoresponders along the lines of “please pardon the impersonal auto-DM but I like to thank my new followers and I hope you find my tweets worthy of reading.” No attempt to sound like a real DM and most importantly, no attempt to sell me something.
