Facebook Business Pages are Changing!

The other day I blogged about 26 Things You Should Be Doing On Your Facebook Business Page.

Now you need to know that Facebook will soon be changing the functionality of these pages, and we’ll all need to prepare for this or risk losing some content.

The main changes include:

  • Removal of application boxes in lieu of application tabs
  • Reducing the width of the application tabs (which will impact some content)
  • Changing the way content is pushed to News Feeds
  • New opportunities for simple e-mail address collection

The first three things on the list will have the most negative impact on how we do things, but they can be worked around. The fourth item provides new opportunities for business owners who are seeking one more touch-point with customers.

These changes will most likely take place near the end of December and through the first few months of 2010, so you ‘ll need to be ready.

Not really sure. E-mail marketing is still big business, and this is apparently a way for businesses to collect e-mail addresses (opt-in, of course) from their Facebook fans with just one-click. It's a great way to build an e-mail database for newsletters or even one-on-one communication, which isn't always the most doable thing via Facebook.

Do you think the email thing will be worth it? I wonder if we will be able to push messages from our Facebook Page to their email?
