Thanksgiving, in many ways, is all about community. Sure, first and foremost it is about being thankful, but beyond that, we celebrate the holiday by celebrating community.
For most of us, we will spend the day with our family. Family is one of the most basic forms of community. And it seems food and community seem to go hand in hand, more often than not.
The first Thanksgiving (putting aside all the potential political discussions about the volatile history of Europeans and Native Americans) was about people coming together and forming community.
We all live in a variety of communities.
This Thanksgiving, take a close look at the communities of which you are a member: families, churches, local communities, online communites, and so on.
Communities are not a matter of what we get out of them, but instead what we contribute to them.
How are you contributing to your various communities?
And how are you thankful for those same communities?
