Thanksgiving means being thankful. And stuffing your face. And spending time with family. But if those aren’t enough, here are some great ways to celebrate the holiday as you either wait for your meal or fall into your post-meal tryptophan induced slumber.
I’ve put them in chronological order so you can play along with the rest of us during the day. Feel free to tweet your participation in these events so that we can have a true community bonding experience.
9:00 a.m. – help welcome Santa with the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on NBC
12:00 noon – TV off, radio on. Tune to WXPN-FM in Philly/Central PA or listen online at xpn.org. Helen Leicht hosts her annual listening party featuring the entire Alice’s Restaurant by Arlo Guthrie.
12:30 – First of three NFL Football games, with Green Bay at Detroit.
2:30 p.m. - Newhart marathon – 11 straight episodes of the classic series on WGN.
4:15 – more NFL action as the Dallas Cowboys lose to…er…I mean…host the Oakland Raiders.
7:00 p.m. – Home for the Holidays: The History of Thanksgiving on the History Channel.
8:00 p.m. – Charlie Brown Thanksgiving – ABC
8:20 p.m. – more NFL Football with the New York Giants at Denver Broncos.
And if you don’t like football, or some of those other programs, head on over to Hulu to watch the classic Thanksgiving episode of WKRP in Cincinnati: Turkeys Away. Love this episode.
And, if you’re lucky, like me, you have the full boxed set of Everybody Loves Raymond. You can watch any and all of the classic Thanksgiving episodes:
Turkey or Fish – Debra decides to buck tradition and serve a healthy Thanksgiving dinner (Season One)
No Fat – Marie decides to cook a Tofu Turkey. Hilarious. (Season Three)
The Bird – The Barones have Thanksgiving with the McDougalls. Pat kills a bird, and the families re-enact the first Thanksgiving. (Season Eight).
What’s your favorite Thanksgiving tradition? Favorite Thanksgiving TV tradition?
