Weekend Social Media Fun: Viral Videos

by Ken on November 6, 2009 · 6 comments

Let’s start a new game, the Weekend Social Media Game.

My friend Stephanie sent me a viral video yesterday that I had seen before and it brought back fond memories of the first time I had seen it. You see, that’s the beauty of viral videos. Not only are they addicting when they are “new”…but they stand the test of time. Most of them are the sorts of things you can go back to, time and time again. You still enjoy them, and sometimes see new things in them.

So how about we all share our favorite viral videos. If you get the chance, come back and check out the videos that people post. I ask you to just include the YouTube (or other video site) URL link, rather than try to embed them here. Don’t wanna slow things down too much.

First, here’s the video that Stephanie shared, the very popular “Evolution of Dance.”

And since we’re on the subject of dance, here’s my choice. Starts slow, but you’re waiting to see the kid that comes out at about 40-seconds into the video.

And one more of my dance favorites, this wedding dance is pretty amazing.

So what’s your favorite viral video? I won’t make it a requirement, but how about we at least TRY to stick with dance related videos. If you don’t have one, feel free to post any other viral video you like.

Post the URL along with your comment. And explain what you like about it, even though in most cases it is probably rather self explanatory!

Brokeback To The Future. Still one of my faves.

Oh man, this brought back memories of college. The first time I saw "Hey Ya Charlie Brown" I absolutely laughed my ass off.

I'm a fan of the classics...

Aaand the Numa Numa song pretty much defined my high school experience.

When I read this I immediately thought of this video:

It's not often that the Best Man in a wedding steals the show...

Of course, the only thing I can think of when I hear the word "dance" is my most favorite TV competition: So You Think You Can Dance. It's a fun show but every now and then there's a piece that really touches me.

Which brings me to last season and a dance arranged by Tyce Diorio. He created a piece based on a woman suffering from breast cancer and her friend helping her through it, in tribute to a friend of his that was going through treatment for breast cancer. Having just lost my cousin to cancer, this really is a dance that meant a lot to me. I've watched it dozens of times and it still makes me cry.

So without further ado, Melissa and Ade: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_TiU_6Majs

Now we need a cheer up, no? We all loved the original wedding dance to Me, You and the Dance Floor that Jill and Kevin did (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-94JhLEiN0) but I'm a bigger fan of the Office version. Especially the part where Dwight kicks the maid of honor in the face. Enjoy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jqk5I236DQ

Personally, I'm a little bitter that I didn't think of this for my wedding ;)

Gonads & Strife (Lyrics NSFW)

Schoolbus (a sequel)

All Your Base Are Belong To Us

Salad Fingers

Charlie the Unicorn

None of these are dance related. You can thank me later.
