Every online marketer’s dream is that something they create will go viral. It could be a video, song, link, picture, or whatever. The hope is that a few people will like it enough to pass it on to some friends, and in the words of the old shampoo commercial “they’ll tell two friends, and so on, and so on…”
This is word of mouth marketing at it’s best.
Sometimes it’s just a really creative music video. The latest Internet sensation is Pomplamoose, a San Francisco based band made up of Jack Conte and the adorable Nataly Dawn. While they do some original music, it’s their cover of Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” that has put them on the digital map. It won’t be long before everyone has heard of them. Here’s why:
Also of interest is their cover of Earth, Wind, and Fire’s “September”
Pomplamoose is just two people making some very cool music. I doubt if there was ever any idea that their music would really be heard and seen anywhere beyond the reaches of the Golden Gate…but stardom CAN come fast when people find you online. Remember OK Go’s “Here it Goes Again”?
Marketers dream of their work going viral, but more often than not, it happens on it’s own. Don’t force it. Just be creative. Innovative. And driven by quality. You do the work, and then let the community take over. If they like it, they’ll tell others.
When we reward creativity, people take notice. Check out Pomplamoose on MySpace and YouTube. Watch their videos and buy their music. And then tell two friends.
